The church was built at the beginning of the 13th century in a Gothic style. Its bell tower is a square shape and it has a two-sloped roof, which is typical from the Gâtinais.. In 1210, Marguerite Aupie, dame de Sainval, was buried in the church. We can still see her tombstone in perfect condition inside the church. It is made of sandstone and finely engraved. We can see on it a praying woman on a crouching dog and surrounded by a Gothic frame.

The gable walls of the church are way higher than the roof, which is a testimony that the roof changed once in its history. It is a quite rare structure that gives a lot of originality to the building.

In 1677, the parish priest, father Gabriel Estancelin, discovered a hidden crypt under the church. It was built during the 11th century, way before the construction of the church itself. The crypt was probably buried during the Middle Age and was used as a burial chamber for the family d’Arbouville who ruled in Boigneville for two hundred years. The priest decided to decorate the crypt with tempera paintings inspired by the Catholic reform. Those paintings were made on the fake marble walls and show the life of Virgin Mary. The baptismal font is from the same period too. The crypt is dedicated to Notre-Dame de Bon Secours, a title that was given to Virgin Mary back to the 14th century.

During the 19th century, the church was greatly restored and also furnished. It was classified as part of the Monuments Historiques in 1925 and the crypt was classified in 1987.

The church is dedicated to the Assumption of Virgin Mary. This event, also called Dormition, is the moment when Mary went up into heaven for Catholics and Orthodoxes. Mary, the mother of Jesus, is the patron saint of mothers.
